Sun Awareness Week: How To Keep Your Skin Sun-Safe

Because There’s No Skincare Without Sun Care

When it comes to healthy, glowing skin, there’s one step that should never be skipped sun care. That’s why this Sun Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on the importance of daily UV protection and equipping our community of Ambassadors with the knowledge they need to help themselves and others enjoy the sun safely.

The Truth About UV Damage

Did you know skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and worldwide? Yet, with better UV awareness and protection, up to 90% of cases could be prevented.

What Are UV Rays?

UV rays, or ultraviolet rays, are invisible rays that come naturally from the sun, or artificially from sources like sun beds. They can’t be felt, and can cause damage over time.

Everyday, your skin is exposed to two main types:

  • UVA rays have longer wavelengths that penetrate deep into the skin, causing around 80% of visible ageing

  • UVB rays have shorter wavelengths that target the skin’s surface, leading to sunburn and increasing the risk of skin cancer.

Both types are present year-round – even on cloudy days – which is why wearing broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily is the most powerful skincare step you can take. Those with fairer skin are especially encouraged to apply SPF 50+ daily for maximum protection.
